About Us

After 30 years of teaching English and Computer Skills in secondary schools, Randy retired to pursue his passions of poetry, writing and making songs. Randy has had a hard time staying away from the classroom, however, as he has continued to substitute teach for kindergarten and other primary grades.

Home schooling their four children, Ramona discovered her passion for teaching reading skills. After two years of working as a substitute, she earned her teaching credential and took her passion to public schools where she has taught for 14 years. She has primarily taught first grade but has also worked as a reading coach for two years.

With more than 50 years of education experience between them, Randy and Ramona have recently created RJ Connections to help create tools teachers can use to help students learn.

With the demand on today’s teachers to meet state and national standards within the classroom, RJ Connections is a way to help meet those standards while creating a fun learning experience for children.

About RJ Connections

RJ Connections began with a request. Randy was subbing for a PM kindergarten teacher. During the morning class, the AM teacher said, “Make me a ditty for the water cycle.” During his time working with the kids at their “jobs” he discovered what all primary teachers know—kids can sing what they can’t say, like evaporation or condensation. That night, he wrote the song for the water cycle and put it to an animated PowerPoint presentation.

It was a great success.

Since then he has been working on a format that gives the same presentation without creating any computer problems for teachers who don’t want to “troubleshoot” technology. They found that solution and have created their first three videos. The videos are intended to be easy to use, to take no more than five minutes, and to address a science standard.

RJ Connections is for kids and for teachers. The videos and files provide solutions to presenting science standards to primary students.
